It may technically be the end of the season for most beach goers, but there is still plenty of nice weather to come before the cold arrives. Ropewalk in Ocean City, Maryland is a great bayside restaurant to catch a beautiful sunset, have a couple of drinks, and eat a good meal while you are in town.
Ropewalk has a deep history in Maryland, specifically Baltimore, where the original Ropewalk Tavern is said to date back to 1788. The original Ropewalk has of course changed hands since 1788, and new partners have been added to expand the brand to other locations. The Ocean City location opened in 2015. It is located on the bay side at 82nd Street.
Fun Things to Know Before You Go:
- You will have beautiful views of the bay while you eat.
- The restaurant is family friendly with a kids play area.
- Outside is set up as a sandy beach area, with Adirondack chairs and fire pits.
- Happy hour has drink and food specials.
- This location has three bars, one inside and two outside.
- Plenty of outdoor seating, as well as room inside.
Happy hour is from 3-6pm Monday through Friday. As I mentioned above, there is food and drink specials on the happy hour menu. See the bartender for exact drink specials of the day, but when we were visiting most drinks were discounted in some way. The food specials are half price Bada Bing shrimp, half price Hickory Smoked Wings, and $1 oysters.
During our recent visit to Ropewalk we enjoyed the sunset over the bay from our Adirondack chairs placed at the edge of their deck. I am pretty sure these were the best seats in the house! To go with the beautiful views we ordered some wine and their “Crab Cake Egg Rolls”. The crab cake egg rolls were not one of the food items on happy hour, but they were definitely delicious!
We did not indulge in dinner on this trip because we had just made plans to meet a friend there for drinks, but we will be back to enjoy dinner and the spectacular view!
